Medical Qigong is one of the four branches of TCM and is the predecessor of Acupuncture. It is an energy based healing system that is over 5,000 years old. Medical Qigong has been know to have high success rates in treating illnesses and conditions from anxiety, stress, high blood pressure, asthma, chronic fatigue, arthritis, cancer, and more.

The Medical QiGong Practitioner certification course is the entry level for beginning the path as a Medical Qigong Doctor. This course is designed to give students an introduction to energy healing that encompasses the vast knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Each class builds on each other as it expands your view on the energetic anatomy and physiology of the body and the Universe. Upon completion of the course you will have in-depth knowledge of the 5 element cycle, the creation of life, the 12 meridians of the body, the 3 dantiens, how to diagnose energy, and how to cultivate, project and heal with Qi. You will be familiar with Qigong exercises used for your own self-healing and as prescriptions for others.

This certification program is monitored by the International Institute of Medical Qigong and is based upon the curriculum that has been established at the Medical Qigong College at the Hai Dian University and used clinically at the Xi Yuan Medical Qigong Hospital in Beijing, China.

There are no prerequisites for this level certification and it is open to the general public. A 200 hour Medical Qigong Practitioner (MQP) certificate will be issued to students who have successfully completed 128 academic hours in addition to 72 hours of clinical internship. The study of Medical Qigong is a journey to be taken seriously, it will have a profound impact on your life and on those who become your clients.

Questions & Answers about the MQP program

1. Are CEU's available?

YES!  The NCCAOM has approved the course for a total of 128 CEU's.

2. Once certified, can one have their own practice & to what extent?

Once certified you are most welcome to establish your own practice. You will have the skills to help people with a myriad of conditions from high blood pressure, stress, anxiety, IBS, constipation, diarrhea, headaches, migraines, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and more. The only area we specifically ask you to stay away from is cancer. The reason for that is that it is an energetically complex disease and requires at least a Masters level to be able to manage the complications of it properly. There are more reasons, but I will expand on those during the course. Other than that, you can make it a full time practice or part-time or manage it however best fits your goals.

3. What are the legal ramifications with diagnosis & treatments?

Basically, you can practice freely. Medical Qigong falls under alternative medicine (energy healing) which is currently unregulated in California.

California Senate Bill SB-577, effective January 1, 2003, enables complementary and alternative health practitioners to provide and advertise their services legally, according to certain rules of compliance specified in the legislation. Section 2053.6 of the California Business and Professions Code requires the following disclosures:

Disclosure to the client in plain, written language that:

a.       that the practitioner is not a licensed physician;

b.      that the treatment is a complementary or alternative healing modality and not licensed by the state;

c.       the nature of the service to be provided and the theory of treatment upon which the services are based; and

d.      the practitioner‘s education and other training, experience, and other qualifications regarding the services to be provided.

You are not an acupuncturist so you cannot use needles on the points we talk about. You can use any other non-invasive method for healing. There are requirements for disclosing information about who you are and your qualifications which is also stated in the attachment.  As for diagnosing, I don’t encourage diagnosing a condition, we work differently than Western medicine. We talk about balance in the flow of energy through the organs so our diagnosis is not related to western terms. It would sound like this: “Arthritis” is actually “painful obstruction due to invasion of cold, hot or damp.” We treat by “resolving” the obstruction. The perspective is different. Also, the beauty of TCM is that each person is unique and there are so many factors to our composition that giving general diagnosis terms is actually inaccurate. Two people may have the same energetic imbalance ie. Kidney yin deficiency and manifest the condition differently ie. Lower back pain, night sweats, high blood pressure. Anyway, you get the idea and we will go into this in-depth during the course.

 4. Is there a risk management regulatory body?

I do recommend applying (joining) the National Qigong Association (NQA). They are the strongest organization at the moment which works to support persons engaged in Qigong. Once you receive certification as MQP you qualify for professional status and will then obtain the backing (and credibility) of a trusted group of peers. This is becoming increasingly important as the popularity of Qigong grows and more people begin to call themselves “Medical Qigong healers”.  Finally, you should arrange to have liability insurance. please visit www.imagroup.com  and sign up under Oriental Bodyworkers.

5. Where does one get the clinical externship?

         The Clinical Externship means that you practice on people during the time you are away from class. From the end of the first weekend you will be able to begin doing the basic protocol. From that time on you are encouraged to practice on family, friends or even your patients if possible. You must log all your hours and fill out a form (which will be provided to you) which keeps track of the profiles (energetically I mean) of the people you’ve treated. This will be the foundation for our case studies at the end of the program.

You will find that the information shared during the 6 months of the course is extremely powerful. Medical Qigong is a tremendous healing tool. It is a modality respected by many of healers and takes time and practice to develop into Mastery. You are about to take the first step into a bigger perspective on health and healing. It would be my honor to help you get started.
